In 1946, Reginald Tolhurst bought Milnes Basket Factory at Pond Farm in Lenham and started his own one-man band transport business, transporting bricks, baskets and fruit to London.
He bought his first lorry, a 1929 Maxwell, for the sum of £25, and growth followed quickly with increasing numbers of vehicles, employees and contracts. The service he offered to his customers maintained his connections and won him business time and time again.
In 1947 the business became a private limited company and in 1949 it was nationalised, running a fleet of twenty nine vehicles with services countrywide. Today the company is still family run and has expanded to some 500,000 sq. feet of warehousing and over 260 lorries and trailers.
